About

Definitive Guide to Canadian Distilleries.jpg

It all started when…

While traveling across Canada, writing a Canadian whisky adventure series for Whisky Magazine, we experienced Canada’s distilling scene just as it was taking off. The idea to turn this into a book gelled in July 2014, in Newfoundland after we stumbled into a biker bar and walked away with limbs intact.

Along the way we had been chased by a 1-tonne rodeo bull in Edmonton, were stranded in the middle of nowhere, south of Calgary with a bunch of drunks on a battered party bus seemingly held together only by its stripper pole. We had poured Crown Royal on the grave of a famous New Brunswick bootlegger, met a new generation of bootleggers and best of all, had tasted hundreds of fabulous spirits. We figured people would welcome a guidebook to visiting Canada’s 250 distilleries without the need for stunt doubles. Fortunately, the people at Appetite by Random House, who published Davin’s Canadian whisky book agreed.
